Crystal was one of the very first mamas I followed on Instagram and she has inspired me ever since. From sharing healthy recipes to her workouts and just everyday mumlife this woman is definitely someone you want to be following.
Describe who is Crystal Squires?
I am a passionate soul who is fierce on my pursuit to live my best life. I am a devoted Wife and a smitten Mama who wants to help bring a positive impact and change to the world through health and happiness in young families. I would say I am caring but I am very black and white, what you see is what you get and I am so far from a perfect Wife or a perfect Mother but I give 100% to everything I do.
Did you always want to be a fitness coach/ personal trainer ?
I have always been into sport and health and fitness but I honestly thought I would end up in a corporate role, accounting has always interested me and when I was younger I wanted to be an accountant.
How much has motherhood changed your life?
In every single way possible. It has made me so compassionate and want to help everyone I can! I’ve never loved so hard that my heart hurts, Since becoming a Mother I also suffer from anxiety in some aspects of life and I think it is because like any Mother I want my children to have the best life possible and a safe future and I can’t help but worry about that. I’ve also learnt that I don’t require a lot of sleep to function and I’ve become a pro a juggling everything in life 😛
How did you find your pregnancies? Did they differ?
Unfortunatley I didn’t have great pregnancies, I had HG (Hyperemisis Gravidarum) which is basically severe nausea and vomiting which causes dehydration and weightloss. I was diagnosed with Jax (my oldest) and it was horrendous and with Kennedy I was borderline but thankfully managed to stay out of any overnight hospital visits like I had to with Jax – I personally just think I learnt how to manage it better the second time around.
Advice for pregnant mamas who want to maintain their fitness?
I could give all the advice on which I think is best but honestly you need to listen to your body and your OBGYN. I was very fit and active and due to my pregnancies I think made it to the gym only a handful of times because I was just so sick and everything would either make me physically sick or I was too nauseas to get up and do it. Do what you can when you can, I remember I had about 10 days where I felt amazing towards the end and I was walking 5+ kms because I felt good but then majority of the days I tried to eat healthy as possible which is most important I think.
How do you keep yourself organised between exercise, owning your own businesses and kids?
Every night before I go to bed I plan the next day and the timeline in which we will run off that day.
What is your funniest “mumlife” moment?
There have been many and probably the funniest of all is too inappropriate to share but I love watching my children interact with each other the things that the baby does to the toddler are absolutely hilarious.
What is your hardest ‘mumlife” moment?
I couldn’t pick a single hard moment that stands out, I think there have been many hard moments along the way but we are healthy and happy (majority of the time) so the hard moments along the way really are just that a hard moment in which you need to take a breath and move on, scream if you need to HAHA.
Tips for new mummies?
Go with it, you can plan all you want and be as organised as anything and It still won’t happen the way you have planned. I was told prior to my children this; Make your children fit in with your life don’t make your life fit in with them. And I totally can’t stress this enough, you do what works for you BUT I am not the Mother to run home because it’s nap time they nap wherever we are and I have a laid back approach to Motherhood and I think having a loose routine is amazing because it gives you flexibility but enables the children to learn that it’s ok to sleep anywhere and it’s ok that they fit in with your lifestyle obviously I don’t mean you would take them out all night partying but you get what I am trying to say. Don’t be disheartened if things don’t go the way you planned because if you take a step back and look at things it may be a miniscule hiccup in the scheme of things.
What is your fave healthy family meal?
My Mexican bowl that I make! Or an Acai bowl!
What is your favourite naughty meal?
I’m not fussed on anything in particular because I eat in such balance that nothing is naughty or off limits to me.
What are 3 things we might not know about Crystal?
I grew up in some of the remotest parts of Australia on large cattle stations. I am a very good horse rider and used to competitively ride doing camp drafting but have not ridden in years and it makes me sad. I have been with my Husband since I was in High School!
Who inspires you?
My Husband, He is an incredible man with a work ethic like no other and he reminds me daily that nothing is impossible and if you stay consistent you can achieve anything.
Tips to keep mamas/ women motivated?
Take the pressure off yourself, quit the excuses and get up and do what you can when you can. There will be days that you don’t feel motivated but that’s where discipline comes into play and if you can do something you just don’t want to that’s where you need to loose the excuses. If you are physically un able to do something that’s where you need to take the pressure off yourself. I find the more you over think things the harder they become also. We aren’t always motivated, no one is but if you have goals to achieve you need to know that with the right plan and execution you can achieve anything. We are so blessed with opportunity we just need to take the appropriate steps to get us to our goals. I always think there is someone out there in a harder situation than me achieving more than me so why can’t I give it my best shot (at whatever it is that I am trying to achieve)
Thanks so much Crystal I know many mamas will appreciate your motivational advice and tips! Check Crystal out here!
